Jo Manuel has practised Yoga for over 30 years, and has trained extensively under Sonia Sumar. Jo first studied with the world renowned Dharma Mittra in New York, then with Faustomaria, Jon Stirk and Mary Stewart, and others in London. Throughout 1970 and 1980, she explored many different styles and approaches in order to develop a well-rounded Yoga practice.
She taught Yoga to children for 10 years, and it was during this time that she became familiar with the work of Sonia Sumar. In 2001, Jo took her first basic training for Yoga for the Special Child® and completed all higher-level courses certifying her as an Integral Hatha Yoga teacher as well as participating in several further basic and advanced Yoga for the special child courses. In 2003, Sonia invited Jo to teach The Yoga for the Special Child® basic course in the UK.
Jo is the founder and director of ‘The Special Yoga Centre’, a registered charity, dedicated to bringing Yoga to families with a focus on children with special needs. Jo and her staff offer the Yoga for the Special Child® programme at the Centre and in Schools and Play Schemes.
